Starlink, with its LEO satellites, offers low-latency internet and high speeds but currently lacks full global marine coverage and support infrastructure. VSAT, while more expensive and higher latency, is mature, reliable, and widely adopted in the maritime industry. Starlink is emerging as a challenger but may not yet meet IMO and maritime compliance standards. For now, many fleets use Starlink as a backup or crew welfare tool alongside VSAT.
