What is NAVTEX?
NAVTEX (Navigational Telex) is an internationally recognized maritime communication system designed to transmit vital navigational and meteorological information to ships at sea. It is part of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), ensuring that vessels receive real-time updates on navigational warnings, weather forecasts, safety-related information, and urgent distress messages.
NAVTEX operates on a narrow-band direct-printing (NBDP) telegraphy system, which allows automatic reception and printing of messages without manual intervention. The system is widely used by commercial ships, fishing vessels, and recreational boats to enhance maritime safety by providing critical updates for safe navigation.
